The rumor mill refuses to give up on the new iPhones, even if Apple is only one day away from officially unveiling the upcoming handsets.
The latest leak focuses on what is rumored to be the SIM card tray for the 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display, which is being called the “iPhone Xr” right now before Apple makes anything officially official. The new images were originally shared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
The colors shown off in the image include blue and red, which are definitely the most eye-catching. We can also see what appears to be a black, or perhaps the Space Gray option, a brown-gold color, and the standard silver option. Blue would be a brand new color for Apple, and one that has been requested for quite some time. Ever since we first heard rumors that a blue iPhone could be coming down the pipe.
Meanwhile, red isn’t new for Apple by any means. Up to this point, the company has launched the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, along with the iPhone 8/8 Plus in the PRODUCT(RED) color schemes. But those options have come well after the initial launch of each handset lineup as a product refresh, and definitely not at launch. What’s more, it looks like the red on offer here would be much darker than what the (PRODUCT)RED brings to the table.
This move would make sense, though, especially if this new red offering is only going to be available on the 6.1-inch iPhone Xr at launch. That still leaves the (PRODUCT)RED partnership in tact for the more expensive iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max sometime in early 2019, if Apple follows its refresh cycle.
If these SIM card trays are the real deal, it looks like Apple will be shaking things up in the color department for its less expensive iPhone model lineup soon. Would you prefer to see these color options available on the higher-priced models? Would you buy a blue iPhone XS Max? How about that rumored gold color?
