Alleged photos of the dummy units of the 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch 2018 iPhones have made their way to the internet from China. The leaked images show the dummy units in all their glory.
It’s difficult to ascertain the source of these leaked photos and if these dummy units are real or fake. Nonetheless, the dummy units give us a good idea of the size difference between the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone and the 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus.
The iPhone X Plus does look pretty compact despite featuring a massive 6.5-inch OLED display. Both handsets do come with a notch which is not clearly visible in the images above.
Since these are dummy units, they obviously don’t come with functional displays which makes it difficult to ascertain just how much bigger the bezels on the 6.1-inch LCD are going to be compared to the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X Plus.
The 6.1-inch LCD iPhone also features a single camera set up at the rear while the iPhone X Plus features a dual-camera setup. While not evident from the leaked images, the iPhone X Plus will feature a stainless steel chassis while the cheaper 6.1-inch LCD will feature an aluminum frame to help keep its price in check.
The dummy units are in silver and white colors, though Apple is expected to launch its 2018 iPhones in a variety of colors especially the 6.1-inch LCD variant so as to attract young customers.
Given how detailed the dummy units are, they are likely designed based off the leaked schematics of the handsets. Apple is expected to unveil its 2018 iPhone lineup in September, with the handsets reportedly going in mass production from this month. Thus, the timing of the dummy leak surfacing on the internet is just about right.
